During her wedding reception, bride Jony Lee wanted to show her mother Luna Macapagal just how meant she meant to her.
So right after the couple’s first dance, she and her husband Alastair took a razor and completely shaved each other’s heads to honor Luna who was suffering from Stage 4 ovarian cancer.
Macapagal had no idea this was about to take place, and was completely surprised by the beautiful act.
Jony told Inside Edition that it was actually her husband’s idea to “show her mom that she was not alone in her cancer fight—and for her to know she would always have their support."
Jony explained that during a traditional Filipino dance, loved ones stick money into your clothes, which is supposed to signify wealth and abundance.
However, all the money the couple received was going to support a non-profit cancer society in her native New Zealand.
Unfortunately, Macapagal passed away two months after the ceremony.
To help keep their mother’s memory alive, the couple set up an online drive to help raise awareness in an effort to help others, of which they raised over $3,000.
