It was reported earlier in the week that the family of the late George Michael had given their full approval to the producers of an upcoming biopic of the singer, starring White Lotus star Theo James.

However, the family has released a statement that vehemently says otherwise.

Per NME, Michael’s estate, George Michael Entertainment, released a statement disproving the rumor they’ve given the film their blessing.

The statement read:

To all of George’s Lovelies, fans and lovers of his music, a story has been published stating that George Michael’s family has endorsed a so called “biopic” about his life. On behalf of George’s family and GME we want to make it clear that there is no truth whatsoever in this story, we know nothing about this project and will not be endorsing it in any way.

The film is rumored to be “in the final stages of development.”

Michael died in the early hours of Christmas morning in 2015 due to what a coroner called “dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver.”
