Almost 80 percent of teens say they would exercise more if they had a place to go, and have their friends with them to keep them motivated.

According to a study commissioned by Planet Fitness, over half of the respondents agreed that working out made them feel healthier, happier, stronger, more energized, and less stressed. But the study further found that while 93 percent of American teens say they want to stay healthy and active over the summer months, many lack motivation or access to do so.

Thus, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open, less than 15 percent of teens met the basic 60-minute daily physical activity recommendation during the pandemic.

So national workout chain, Planet Fitness, took it upon themselves and have started a program called the "High School Summer Pass." It will let teens from the age of 14 to 19 work out for free at any Planet Fitness, starting on May 16, 2022, all the way through the end of August.

Teens just have to sign up through the company's website. A notable detail, according to program's rules, is that teens must work out at the location they sign up at, and are not permitted to use other locations.

“As the leader in fitness," said Chris Rondeau, Chief Executive Officer at Planet Fitness, "we believe we have a responsibility to provide a welcoming, safe, and Judgement Free environment for high school students to improve their physical and mental wellness, particularly given the challenges they have and continue to face in the wake of the pandemic."
