Real name Niles Hollowell-Dhar, the chart-topping artist, label and brand head of Dharma Worldwide, and now music educator spoke with us just as his highly-anticipated new album dropped back in March. "I really love film soundtracks and I love dance music, of course," he says.
"From the beginning with KSHMR, I wanted to make cinematic dance music and a lot of it used to be dark and big roomy... but now it's more chill, and a bit more mid tempo. That gives a lot of room to take all these amazing instruments from around the world and tell you a story with them that isn't just big room which I was known for. This is a real departure from that. A bit more musical, I would say, and just reflects where I am as a person."
Already noted as one of the most intriguing albums of the year, the creation of the record "made me fall in love with music all over again," he says. "There's a journey in every song. It's the most creative music I've ever made and the most challenging, filled with sharp turns and surprises. I hope the world loves it as much as I do."
