The Green Day frontman has reportedly filed FEC papers to run for president in the 2024 election. What’s more, the songwriter behind the hit song “American Idiot” has filed to run as a Republican.

While it’s certainly an entertaining prospect, fans may want to temper their expectations as a spokesperson for the FEC told Billboard back when Kanye West was entertaining the idea of running for president "just because you see a candidate's name on a filing doesn't mean that person filed the form... we get lots of false and fictitious filings."

Armstrong has never been shy about making his political feelings known (just see here, here, and here), but it would certainly come as a surprise were he to run as a Republican.

Green Day is set to make their return to the stage as they were just announced as one of the headliners of the Life is Beautiful festival.

The festival will take place in downtown Las Vegas from September 17-19 and features Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, Dillon Francis, A$AP Rocky, Ludacris, Brittany Howard, HAIM, Noah Cyrus, and many more.
