
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — New Yorkers and tourists alike have a new reason to visit Times Square.
A 110-foot tall Ferris wheel officially opened Wednesday and will be offering rides for limited time at the Crossroads of the World on Broadway between West 47th and West 48th streets.

"This is really exciting," Mayor Bill de Blasio said a Tuesday briefing. "This is going to add even more energy and excitement to a place that's already synonymous with energy and excitement. and it's going to be a symbol of recovery."

"It will bring us all an incredible, new way to enjoy Times Square from a completely new vantage point," Tom Harris, President of the Times Square Alliance, said.
A 12-minute ride will cost $20 for adults and $15 for kids. There's a "skip the line" option available for $35.

Those who get their first or second dose of the COVID vaccine between Aug. 1 and Sept. 12 will be eligible for one of 100 free rides a day on the Times Square Wheel with proof of vaccination.
The attraction is open from noon through midnight and will run through Sept. 12.
