ST. CHARLES, Ill. (KMOX) -- It appears former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants to properly thank President Donald Trump for commuting his prison sentence. To do it, Blagojevich is headlining a fundraiser for a Republican Illinois State Senate candidate in Chicago's southwest suburbs.
Billed as "an evening with Gov. Rod Blagojevich," the sub-headline promises to "celebrate President Donald J. Trump's RNC 2020 nomination."
Prices start at $150 a plate and tickets are limited to only 50, though the event will be streamed. $300 a ticket gets you a VIP cocktail reception that starts a half hour earlier than the event itself. You can also sponsor it for $1,000.
What does all that get you?
An event flier advertises an "intimate address" by Gov. Blagojevich, who was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison on various convictions including trying to shake down a children's hospital. Event goers will also get a private viewing of President Trump's RNC acceptance speech.
The night is ostensibly meant to support the candidacy of Tom McCullagh, running to replace Democrat Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant in the state's 49th senate district. Bertino-Tarrant is running for Will County Executive.
McCullagh's opponent, Meg Loughran Cappel, called the fundraiser "shameful," noting that "countless Illinoisans are worried about their jobs, healthcare, and safety while these three politicians only worry about themselves."
