ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- Today, Illinoisans go to vote in the primary.
Democrats are picking a Presidential candidate and Republicans are picking one for U.S. Senate.
But how many are actually showing up?
"Voting right now is very light," Madison County Clerk Debbie Ming-Mendoza said. "One precinct they've had no voters" as of 7:35 a.m.
She expects turn-out to be low, even though voters should be well aware the polls are open.
"We haven't heard from any voters assuming that we would be closed," Ming-Mendoza says. "What they were most concerned about is how I would control the volume of voters coming in to the polls."
Mendoza says she's given volunteers instructions for that scenario, like telling people to sit in their cars if wait lines become too long.
"The heroes of the day are these election judges. I'm so proud of them and honored to be working with them today, allowing voters to come in and have their voices be heard by casting a ballot."
Polls are open until 7 tonight.
