ST. LOUIS (NHL) – The National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that Blues goaltender Jordan Binningtonhas been named ‘Second Star’ for the week ending Jan. 13.  Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel were named first and third star, respectively.

Binnington, 25, posted a 3-0-0 record last week, including a .974 save percentage and a 0.67 goals-against average.  The 6’1, 174-pound goaltender recorded a 25-save shutout in his first career NHL start, helping the Blues beat the Flyers, 3-0, on Jan. 7 in Philadelphia.  He became the second goaltender in Blues history (Rich Parent - Jan. 26, 1999 vs. San Jose) and the 35th goaltender in NHL history overall to post a clean sheet in his first career start.  The Richmond Hill, Ontario, native finished the week by stopping 28 of 29 shots in a 4-1 win over Montreal on Jan. 10, while he turned aside 21 of 22 shots in a 3-1 victory against Dallas on Jan. 12.  Binnington’s 0.67 goals-against average shares the fifth-lowest mark of any goaltender in his first three career starts in NHL history.
