Following the incident over the weekend where a teenage girl, Janae Edmonson, lost both her legs to a reckless driver who was out on bond, one alderman is calling for Kim Gardner to step down.

Alderman Mike Gras of the 28th ward wrote a letter Wednesday that he shared on Twitter. He writes that while he supported Gardner in her election — and reelection — he feels that her performance in office is only getting worse.

"The most recent example, where a visitor to St. Louis was permanently injured due to the recklessness of someone that had repeatedly violated the conditions of his bond, breaks my heart," Gras wrote. "In my experience as an attorney and a municipal prosecutor in St. Louis County, the Circuit Attorney is the one with a responsibility to file a motion to revoke someone's bond."

Late Tuesday night, Gardner's office released a statement regarding Edmonson's accident and the suspect Daniel Riley, saying "It's unfortunate that there are those who choose to twist the facts to take advantage of this situation for their own selfish motives. This is not the time for finger pointing."

Gras continued in his letter, writing, "It is further disheartening that the Circuit Attorney is now attempting to avoid responsibility by blaming the Court for not doing her job."

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones told KMOX on Wednesday that the city is trying to see where the gaps were in the situation to make sure it doesn't happen again. She added that Gardner has lost the trust of the people
