ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Police say they've arrested the man suspected of pointing a gun at three young children and a grandmother in St. Louis and stealing their go-kart.

The children – ages 9, 6 and 4 – were playing with their new go-kart under the supervision of their 68-year-old grandmother. Police say a suspect jumped out of an SUV, pointed a firearm at the family and demanded the go-kart. One of the children got off it and then the suspect jumped in and fled the scene.

The alleged armed carjacking happened Wednesday around 3:45 p.m. in a vacant lot near Riverview and McLaran, north of downtown.

Around 11:30 that night police spotted the go-kart near the area of the crime, at Arlington and Thekla. The suspect took off in the go-kart when police tired to stop him. It was found ditched in an ally a short time later and police arrested the 24-year-old suspect nearby.

He was taken to the hospital due to injuries he sustained when crashing the go-kart, police say.
