Robbie Avila was back in the courtroom Wednesday, seeking a preliminary injunction that would allow him to play a fifth season this year and an extra roster spot at St. Louis University.
Avila testified about his agreement with the Lakers. NCAA points to 2 collab posts with Avila’s IG that says he “signed,” with the Lakers. Avila says he never put pen to paper and agreement was verbal. NCAA says that still counts per their rules 2/4 @kmoxnews @KMOXSports https://t.co/1MSZVcJAjZ

Avila took the stand and testified about his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, saying he orally agreed to an Exhibit-10 deal to play for them in the Summer League but never signed a physical contract. The NCAA argued this was a violation of their rules anyway, and should still leave him ineligible. Avila's team argued other college players have signed pro deals and played professionally and have still been allowed to play.
Avila also testified about other teams recruiting him if SLU were to not receive an additional roster spot for him. The teams Avila named include DePaul, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Kentucky and Oregon State. Many of those teams have rescinded their interest, due to filling out their roster.
Avila said in recent weeks, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State have expressed interest. Avila says Oklahoma State has offered him an NIL deal between$500,000-1,000,000 and have a roster spot already open for him, unlike SLU who would need an exemption. Avila maintained his preference is to play for SLU.
KMOX asked Avila after the hearing if he would play in Friday's game against Mizzou if a ruling is made in time, "We'll see what happens." The temporary restraining order was extended fifteen days or until Judge Sengheiser makes a ruling, which he said would happen before the extension expires.
