A driver killed a bicyclist in a hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon in South City, the sixth pedestrian fatality St. Louis has seen in six weeks, and the 13th this year.
47-year-old Danyell McMiller died at the hospital after being struck near Magnolia on Grand. Police are looking for the vehicle involved -- a white Kia.
Moore said the driver was driving at a high speed in the bicycle lane and trying to pass other cars when it hit McMiller.
McMiller was thrown from his bike and hit three other parked cars. Moore said the Kia did not have license plates and there's no description of the driver.
This follows an increase in pedestrian fatalities on Grand in the last few months. Earlier in the summer, KMOX heard from South Grand residents who are demanding safer driving laws and better enforcement.
South Grand Community Improvement District members said that near the end of July and beginning of August, five pedestrians were hit in three weeks, and three of those pedestrians were killed.
Police say their traffic enforcement initiative is still active and add that a large part of Grand Boulevard is part of that initiative.
