Two St. Louis police officers shot; one in stable condition, one released from hospital

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) The two 3rd District officers were attempting to stop a truck, at 9th and Lafayette, wanted for a robbery from January 31st in the 3800 Block of Lindell.

New Police Chief Robert Tracy says the Ford truck was involved in a crash, near Soulard. "The suspect fled from the vehicle, and fired shots at our officers. The officers returned fire, striking the suspect in the ankle."

The two officers were taken to two different hospitals for treatment. They are 38 years old, on the St. Louis Police Department for 14 years and a 24-year old office on the force for two years.

Both officers were shot in the torso area. Tracy says the suspect is a man in his thirties, he was also transported to the hospital for treatment. The Force Investigative Unit is handling the investigation.

Tracy stresses, it's early in the investigation and that more information will be released later.

UPDATE 1:05 P.M. FRIDAY

According to police, one officer is out of the hospital, and the other upgraded to stable condition.
