ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOX) - Following announcements from cities like Kansas City and Nashville that most COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted, St. Louis County and St. Louis City appear to be working on changes too.
In his Wednesday morning news conference, County Executive Dr. Sam Page says restrictions could be eased soon, based on the CDC's new guidelines that fully-vaccinated citizens don't need to wear masks while outdoors in most situations. He says he wants to align the county's restrictions with the city, though he notes they're pretty close already.
"We certainly plan to adopt the CDC's recommendations and in corporate those into our public protocols," Page says. "Our Department of Public Health is working closely with the City of St. Louis Health Department to align our health protocols and we plan to jointly announce next steps as early as Monday."
He says they're using Kansas City as an example. On the west side of Missouri, they're allowing all businesses – including bars and restaurants – to operate at full capacity and no longer requiring face masks if you're outdoors, in a private indoor space where six feet of social distance can be maintained or in a room where everyone is fully vaccinated.
Page says he hopes residents aren't getting a "false sense of security" with the possible easing of restrictions. He points out that about 130 County residents still test positive for COVID each day.
