The trial of Dawan Ferguson continues today. Ferguson is accused of the murder of his 9-year-old disabled son Christian Ferguson in 2003.
On Wednesday, the third day of the trial, the jury heard testimony from Christian Ferguson's biological and step siblings, and a nanny, plus a special FBI agent — who is also a registered nurse — who was assigned to Christian Ferguson's case.
Special Agent Liza Ludivico reviewed Christian's medical records and said what immediately jumped out to her was Christian's weight loss, missed medical appointments, the child's failure to thrive, prescriptions not being administered as prescribed, medical supplies not picked up and home health care records that revealed the family was not able to provide the level of care Christian needed.
Ludivico described something she found using an alternate light source which the FBI uses to detect biological material. She'd found some of Christian Ferguson's diapers, which were doubled up, meaning they'd put two on him at once. In some of the diapers, the biological matter showed that Christian Ferguson had ingested some of the diaper material.
Christian's older stepsister Dashonda Linwood testified that her step brother was getting skinnier, and that his complexion had changed between March and June of 2003.
Lin Ferguson, Christian's younger sister, said that on the night her brother went missing, she got up in the middle of the night, around 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning. She said she saw Dawan Ferguson carrying someone from Christian Ferguson's bedroom. She also saw someone else, whose face was fully covered. Dawan Ferguson saw Linwood and told her to go back to bed. She said she saw dried blood and had seen and heard signs of a struggle.
Ruth Coleman also testified. She was Christian and Connor Ferguson's teacher, then became their live-in nanny and eventually Dawan's girlfriend. She said that when she had talked to him about Christian, he said, "You know me, I do what I have to do."
The prosecution's last witness, Santana Contreras, is a woman who worked with Dawan Ferguson's then wife, Monica. She testified that she was invited to join them in a polyamorous relationship, which involves three or more people in an exclusive relationship.
Contreras said Dawan Ferguson told her that his stepfather, a developer, was a powerful man and that Christian was dead before Dawan called police on June 11th 2003.
Contreras said Dawan told her his stepfather assisted with disposing Christian's body in a foundation of a house that the stepfather was involved with.
