The former owner of movie star chimp, Tonka, faces a steep legal bill.

A federal judge has ordered former animal dealer Tonia Haddix of Festus to pay PETA legal fees in their lawsuit against her.

The animal rights activists sued Haddix, saying she lied to the courts about the purported death of Tonka the Chimpanzee.

In 2020, she agreed to hand over other Chimps from her defunct Missouri Primate Foundation in Festus, but said Tonka was dead.

Haddix is now ordered to pay $225-thousand to PETA.

Tonka - who starred in the 1997 movie "Buddy" - is now living in a Florida sanctuary.
