ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Sure, there are a lot of things about this year we'd like to forget. But looking back at all the things we've overcome to get here (and a few things that made us smile) can't hurt.

10. WATCH: Mark McGwire's super-prospect son swings just like him
At the Perfect Game Showcase - which ran from June 16-21 - McGwire's son displayed an approach at the plate that the baseball world hasn't seen since 2001.

9. 'Killed by looter:' St. Louis police mourn loss of Capt. David Dorn in overnight violence
In the early morning hours of June 2, former St. Louis Police Capt. David Dorn was killed by a "looter" after a night of violent protests. He died trying to protect a pawnshop that's owned by a friend.
8. Grant's Farm to open for first ever drive-through holiday lights experience
For the first time ever, guests were allowed to drive their own vehicles through Grant's Farm for Halloween and holiday light displays.
7. Joe Buck completely gave up alcohol over 3-week span for first time due to crazy announcing schedule
The St. Louis native and former KMOX voice was facing a particularly noteworthy week in which he called eight sporting events in eight days, including five World Series games and three major NFL clashes. Apparently drinking alcohol was on the opposite end of his to-do list.

6. School decides to read book on Black astronaut to all students after parent complains about it
The Rockwood School District responded to a parent's complaint about a book that was read to a second-grade class, by having it read to the entire school. The book is called "Ron's Big Mission," written about Astronaut Ron McNair – the only Black member of the 1986 NASA Challenger crew.
5. All Missouri businesses allowed to reopen, no social gathering limit in Gov. Parson's plan
On April 27, Gov. Mike Parson released phase one of his "Show Me Strong Recovery" plan on Monday, which begins with allowing all businesses to reopen and doing away with limitations on social gatherings – as long as "six feet of distance can be maintained between individuals and/or families."
4. MLB announcer replaced mid-game, suspended after using homophobic slur
FOX Sports announcer Thom Brennaman was replaced on a Wednesday night broadcast after he was heard using a homophobic slur on-air. He resigned from his job with the Cincinnati Reds and will reportedly be calling games for the Roberto Clemente League in Puerto Rico this season.

3. Petition calls for St. Louis to be renamed, removal of statue on Art Hill
A petition was made with hopes of changing the city's name in St. Louis and taking down a statue of its namesake, Saint Louis IX in Forest Park. The creators say the city's name is "outright disrespect" to Jewish and Muslim residents and they're asking for support.

The 38-year-old catcher played in his 100th career postseason game, recorded his 100th career postseason hit and made a catch that gets crazier each time you watch it.
