Kirkwood Police say she sent more than $600,000 to a person she met while playing "Words with Friends." The app is a mobile version of Scrabble where you can play against and chat with other users.

Officer Gary Baldridge says the woman who lives in the 2000 block of Trailcrest Lane first called them on Nov. 17. She said she was a victim of an elaborate romance scam that began two years earlier.

She had only met the person virtually while playing the game on her phone and was sporadically sending them money.

Baldridge says the case will be turned over to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for further investigation.
