Former Aldermanic President Lewis Reed heads to prison this week, after a scandal last summer where it was revealed that he took bribes while in office. He pled guilty to the federal charges, alongside two other aldermen, Jeffrey Boyd and John Collins-Muhammad.
In a KMOX exclusive interview, Reed sat down with Kevin Killeen ahead of his nearly four-year prison sentence. He told KMOX that he’s been busy saying farewell to friends and relatives.

“What’s on my mind more than anything is my family,” Reed said. “In your absence, you worry about your family, and how they’re going to work through those things — a lot of life’s things — without you.”
Reed described his current situation as being at the top of a roller coaster and looking down the hill. But he noted that he’s had a lot of support from the community.
“To all of the people that have stopped me in the grocery stores and hugged me, stopped me walking down the street and said ‘Hey, we’re praying for you,’ seen me in restaurants, come up, tapped me on the shoulder and gave me positive encouragement — I just cannot thank you enough,” he said.
Reed has to report to prison in Arkansas on Jan. 12. He tells KMOX that he hopes he’ll be remembered for some of the good things, not just the scandal.
