Major Case Squad seeks public's help in solving killings in University City, Brentwood

BRENTWOOD, MO (KMOX) - As the reward for the information that solves the Saturday night murders of Barbara Goodkin and Dr. Sergei Zacharev is increased to $30,000, Major Case Squad Detectives are hoping the public can provide video or eyewitness accounts that can help find their killer.

"We need, and desperately want, the public's help in this," says Squad Deputy Commander, Lt. Jack Abel.

Investigators believe the person who shot Goodkin as she drove with her husband in the 8200 block of Delmar in University City at about 10:50 pm Saturday and Zacharev an hour later in the 8700 block of Eager Rd in Brentwood, was driving a silver SUV The video they have of that vehicle, is not clear. Abel is hoping someone can provide a better view.

"Anyone that has a ring doorbell camera, a business camera...anybody that may have been driving by that thinks they may have seen a silver vehicle," He says more than one person was in the SUV.

Meanwhile, University City Police Captain Fredrick Lemons says it appears robbery was the motive for the shootings. "There is no definitive motive," he says, "but robbery is a possible motive." He did not give further details.

Investigators say forensic evidence links the two killings, but they're not saying how.

Lemons says Goodkin's husband, Stanley, was shot in the chest but survived, because the bullet hit the cell phone in his breast pocket. He was able to drive to a hospital, where Barbara Goodkin died Sunday.

Thirty-six detectives are working the case.
