JEFFERSON COUNTY (KMOX) - A suspect is loose, but his identity is known by police after he allegedly attacked someone with a machete-type weapon at a gas station in Jefferson County on Tuesday. Video of the attack was shared on social media.
Police say 31-year-old Ted Treece of Cedar Hill hasn't been captured as authorities have been searching for him since the incident took place at a gas station near High Ridge Boulevard and Antire Road. He was seen on video walking into the building with the weapon and striking the victim.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Grant Bissell says the victim was targeted and the two fought after the initial strike. He says the suspect was "bloodied up pretty bad" while the victim had only a "small injury on his face."
The initial manhunt for the suspect was unsuccessful and called off Tuesday night. He's charged in at-large warrants with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He has no listed attorney.
Court records show that Treece was convicted and placed on probation for firing a crossbow and an AR-15 rifle at an acquaintance he accused of damaging his car in 2018. The man suffered a hand injury.
Treece was accused last month of a probation violation. He also was charged in May with a domestic assault.
An arrest warrant says Treece is a persistent offender with four felony convictions.
