Mayor Patty Gregory says she opposes a plan to change the city's zoning to allow dispensaries within a hundred feet of schools. "When you are looking for places in communities, most people go and look at the school system and we have a wonderful school system. And if you come out the door and there, right across the street, is a marijuana facility???"

So far, Belleville has approved plans for two dispensaries--both on the outskirts of town. The mayor says she doesn't ever want a marijuana store setting up shop in Downtown Belleville,  because it's a family area near schools and churches.
