ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Associated Press early Wednesday morning called the 2024 presidential election in favor of former President Donald Trump, paving the path for Trump to win a second term in office in his third attempt.
Many local leaders in Missouri and Illinois gave their reactions to Trump unofficially winning a second term as U.S. President.
Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe (R), who won the Missouri gubernatorial race over Crystal Quade sent out a simple two word post on X, formerly known as Twitter just a bit after 1 a.m.
Missouri U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R), who defeated Lucas Kunce to keep hold of his seat in the U.S. Senate sent a congratulatory post to Trump on his X account.
Missouri U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt, (R), sent multiple celebratory posts on his X account, including one saying "the Republican Party is a multi-ethnic working class party thanks to the leadership of @realDonaldTrump and I'm here for it."
Missouri U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner (R), who won re-election Tuesday night, sent out a post on her personal X account congratulating Trump.
Illinois U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R), who represents Illinois 12th Congressional District, sent out a lengthy congratulatory post Trump, calling his victory, "a political comeback for the ages."
