The Missouri House's most controversial budget cuts may not make it to the Governor's desk.
The House recently passed a version of the budget that cut all $4.5 million in funding for libraries. The cut was made in apparent retaliation to a lawsuit — libraries have teamed up with the Missouri ACLU to sue the state over laws that ban them from having books that contain sexually explicit content.
But once the budget makes its way to the Senate, funding will be restored for libraries, according to Sen. Lincoln Hough, chair of the Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee.
The House budget also sought to defund Diversity, Equity and Inclusion funding in government. Missouri Senate President Caleb Rowden said the Senate planned to restore that funding, as well.
