Governor Mike Kehoe has authorized the Missouri National Guard to help ICE starting Wednesday with administrative, clerical and logistical duties. That came in response to a request from the Departments of War and Homeland Security. Kehoe says he is confident their contributions will be invaluable to immigration enforcement efforts and that Missouri is proud to join in the Trump administration's efforts.
Mayor Cara Spencer tells KMOX she'd rather have tornado support. "My hope is that if the National Guard plays a roll here in the city of St. Louis that it is to help assist the families that have experienced tremendous loss during the tornado."
Representative Ray Reed (D-St. Louis) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mike Kehoe’s announcement authorizing Missouri National Guard members to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with clerical and administrative duties:
“Across Missouri, families are working hard to make ends meet. They’re worried about the cost of healthcare, whether their kids’ schools have the resources they need, and how we repair the roads and bridges that connect our communities. These are the challenges that deserve our full attention."
