Trailnet published their first St. Louis Safe Routes to School report last week focusing on City Garden Montessori.

The school has two campuses in the Botanical Heights neighborhood and serves about 275 students from preschool to eight grade. The report identified safety issues students encounter on their walk or bike ride to school.

Sam Pounders, Trailnet's Community Mobility Planner and author of the St. Louis report, said the report's main concerns revolve around the lack of traffic-calming measures on campus. On the bright side, she said school staff and operations like pickup and dropoff are currently operated very safely.

Trailnet conducts similar reports nationally. Pounders said the research not only increases student's safety but also encourages more of them to walk or bike to school.

The report will soon be presented to city officials, who Pounders hopes will implement some of the recommendations.
