A hospice house is opening in the Central West End.
Officials broke ground on the 16 bed facility located on the Washington University Medical Campus last week. Angela Martin-Davis, President of Barnes-Jewish/Christian Home Care, said the house is intended for patients receiving end-of-life care who are more interested in their comfort than treatment.
"Unlike a traditional nursing home or hospice facility, a hospice house built around comfort and dignity and family-centered care," Martin-Davis said. "Patients have a private room, places for family to stay, access to outdoor areas and living areas and other home-like amenities."
The new hospice house is the first concept in the city but the second in the region, following Evelyn's House which opened in 2017 in Creve Coeur. Evelyn's House at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is expected to open in 2028.
