SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - At a time when everybody's trying to be thrifty, don't bother checking the mail for grocery ads Wednesday.

"There are over a million people in the St. Louis metro area that this will impact," points out Schnucks Vice President of Marketing Jenn Freeman.

The Post-Dispatch is cutting the "Local Values" mailer four weeks this year, including this one. Schnucks and Dierbergs are strongly pushing their apps as the 'new' way to get ads.

KMOX News asked Freeman if this could prompt a permanent change by consumers. . away from the paper. "Across the country this is happening and we've heard from other retailers that that is absolutely the case, it's just easier, right?"

Freeman says the Post-Dispatch told Schnucks it intends to skip the "Local Values" mailer every four to six weeks next year, 2023.
