If you live in Soulard, you've probably seen a vehicle labeled 'Security' patrolling the neighborhood.
In addition to off-duty police officers who already patrol Soulard, additional security guards were hired this Spring to patrol through the early mornings. The extra security was hired by the Soulard Special Business District, a special taxing district voters approved three decades ago, and is paid for through resident's property tax assessments.
The Buisness District publishes monthly crime reports, which have been trending down in recent years. Luke Reynolds, Chairperson of the the District, attributes the difference to the increased patrols.
"I think it's certainly had an impact of car break-ins," Reynolds said. "And that really drives a lot of our crime in Soulard."
