ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Gangs, drugs and road rage. Those are some of the motives the Missouri State Highway Patrol says may have led to more than a dozen shootings along St. Louis area highways in the past year.
Many of them have occurred on the Interstate 70 corridor, between downtown and the Goodfellow Boulevard. Some of the recent incidents include a teenager who was shot in the thigh and shoulder while driving and a 32-year-old woman who was killed, her car was found riddle with bullets on the side of the highway.
Patrol spokesman Cpl. Dallas Thompson says more troopers will be patrolling those highways. The hope is that just by being more visible they can deter these violent crimes from happening.
Thompson says the shootings could be related to gang turf wars, drug deals or road rage. They don't appear to be connected, he says.
To avoid a road rage shooting, Thompson says don't cut people off drive courteous.
