ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Saint Louis University recently released the latest poll numbers from it's YouGov poll and among the results included significant support for Republicans candidates, and support for ballot issues such as sports betting, raising the minimum wage, and abortion.

The poll also asked voters about how school-related topics such as how they feel about a ban in schools when it comes to the use of cell phones.

At least eight states have passed laws, issued orders, or adopted rules to curb phone use among students at school, but not in Missouri.

Currently in the state, cell phone bans have varied, with some schools in the St. Louis-region like SLUH, MICDS, and Ladue Middle School enforcing policies to curb the use of phones.

But should the state enforce have a statewide ban and would voters support it? In the latest SLU/YouGov Poll, the answer was a clear yes, with 72% of voters indicating in the poll they would support for prohibiting high school students from accessing their cell phones during regular school hours.

Notably, 45% of young voters — those aged 18-29 — supported cell phone bans during school hours, but were the only only group without majority support. However, 57% of them found to have supported cell phone restrictions during class only.

"In that young voter group, they are more supportive of putting away cell phones during class, but not necessarily during all regular school hours," said Ashley Burle, the SLU/YouGov co-poll director and education on Total Information A.M. Tuesday.
