Six Flags is selling its St. Louis amusement park, which was one of the iconic company's original three locations when it opened in 1971.

The parent company says it's offloading seven regional parks to Kansas City-based real estate investment trust EPR Properties for $331 million. These include Worlds of Fun in the KC market and Valleyfair near Minneapolis.

EPR owns real estate which it then leases to operators for uses ranging from theme parks to attractions like downtown St. Louis' City Museum to restaurants and movie theaters. KMOX earlier this year was one of the only news outlets to connect EPR with a possible Six Flags transaction.

The parks sold will license and maintain the Six Flags brand through the end of this year. Season passes will be honored through the 2026 season.

An Orlando company under the brand Enchanted Parks is expected to operate the St. Louis property under a lease arrangement going forward.
