St. Louis County video call cut short by vulgar hack

CLAYTON, MO (KMOX) - St. Louis County's Health Department is vowing to have a conversation on the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations and the African American community in spite of an online attack during a virtual panel discussion late last week.

The panel included descendants of victims of the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study, ready to talk about the importance of vaccinations.

The hack of the video conference included pornography and racial slurs.

County Health Department spokesman Christopher Ave tells KMOX News, "unfortunately we were the subject of an attack by a malicious individual or individuals who decided to try to prevent us from delivering that message to the public. We have referred the matter to law enforcement authorities."

Ave says the event will be re-scheduled, there's no date yet.

In the meantime the County IT department is also investigating the hack. Ave says the next time more security will be in place to prevent it from happening again.
