SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - As COVID numbers continue a steep decline, many experts are saying that we are entering a new phase of the pandemic, among them is the leader of the Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force, Dr. Alex Garza. "I think the numbers certainly look promising and would support that outlook."
Garza says if the trend continues, we can start gathering indoors with looser restrictions in the near future -- even as soon as next month. As for the possibility that another variant could emerge, he says that's not likely. "The variant would have to somehow evade all of the built up immunity that we have right now in the population in order to be significant or in order to cause a lot of disease and hospitalizations and death. The risk of that happening is not that great.
He says COVID is on the verge of becoming one of the seasonal viruses that we see every year.
