ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - MLS announced the winner of MLS Defender of the Year with St. Louis City SC defender Tim Parker falling just short.
FC Cincinnati's Matt Miazga was named the league's defender of the year Monday, with Parker finishing as the runners-up.
MLS released the vote breakdown for each player and Parker actually secured the player's vote, beating Miazga 19.11% to 16.56%.
However, Miazga would runaway from Parker in the Club and Media vote with Miazga winning by over 24 percent in the Club vote, which consisted votes from managers and general managers of each club, and won by over 23 percent in the Media vote.
Despite failing to claim an award, it was still quite a successful season for Parker. After a tough 2022 season for Parker with the Houston Dynamo, who finished in 13th place in the Western Conference, Parker was traded to City SC and reunited with Bradley Carnell, who coached him when they were both at the New York Red Bulls.
Parker's first season with City SC was a return to form for the longtime MLS staple, with Parker intercepting 45 passes, his most since 2018, and being on the pitch for seven clean sheets, his most since 2019.
Parker's 2,556 minutes on the pitch this season for City SC was the the fourth-most minutes he was on the field in his career and highest since his career-high 3,060 minutes in 2021 in his first season with the Dynamo.
Parker was also a threat on the offensive side, racking up four goals this season for City SC, the most he's scored in his career.
