Nebraska Amber Alert youngsters found safe near Haysville

A man and two children who were the focus of an Amber Alert out of Nebraska were found in the Wichita area. The children are safe and the suspect, Tanner Joel Leichleiter, has been arrested.

The Nebraska State Patrol contacted the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at 10:22 a.m. Monday requesting the alert for two children from Tekemah, Nebraska, (north of Omaha), who were believed to be traveling into Kansas.


The NSP indicated that two victims, a seven-year old and a four-year old, had been forcibly taken by 30-year-old Leichleiter. During their investigation, officials received information that indicated Leichleiter may be traveling south-bound Highway 81 into Kansas in a white 2009 Ford Expedition with Nebraska plates 31-F325.

Leichleiter was arrested near 71st Street South & Ridge Road, west of Haysville.

Tekamah Police Chief Dan Jacobs says the man accused of taking the boys was a step-grandparent and was caught and arrested in Wichita after a police chase. Jacobs says the boys were found safe in the man's vehicle.
