Wichita water and sewer customers will pay more on their bills starting in January 2021.

The Wichita City Council approved a combined 5.17% rate increase for 2021, due in part to large projects like the new northwest water treatment plant currently under construction.

The city's Alan King explained that under the plan, a residential customer who uses 7500 gallons of water a month would see an increase of $3.66 on their monthly bill.

The city also approved their water and sewer rate relief program for 2020. Customers with an income of less than 125% of the federal poverty level are eligible to receive a one-time $50 credit on their bill. The program runs until the end of January.
