A woman was severely injured in a two-alarm apartment fire in the north part of Wichita; it happened at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday in the Liberty Way apartments at 2704 E. 9th St., east of Grove.
Wichita firefighters found a woman inside a first-floor apartment, and crews were able to get her out through a window. She was taken to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.
Fire crews say many people had to be evacuated from the three-story building.
“The fire apartment is located on the lower portion of the first floor, and there was quite a bit of smoke damage. We utilized fans to push the smoke out of the building itself,” said Wichita Battalion Fire Chief Jose Ocadiz.
Most of the fire damage occurred in the apartment where the victim was trapped.
