UPDATE: Wichita woman arrested, suspected of stabbing her mother

UPDATE: A woman was taken into custody, suspected of first-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of her mother, early Friday morning in southeast Wichita.

Just before 8:00 a.m., officers responded to a reported cutting at a residence in the 1500 block of E. Crowley. They found the suspect outside the home. Inside the residence, officers found Anita Avers, 80, unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds.

Sedgwick County EMS transported the woman to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased at 8:26 a.m.

The suspect, 47, was transported to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for first-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing.

Two people were critically hurt after a possible domestic disturbance led to a stabbing in S. Wichita in the 1500 block of E. Crowley; that's west of Hydraulic, and north of I-135.

When police officers arrived at the home, they found a 48-year woman in the street with cuts on her hands. Inside the home, an 81-year-old woman was suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The older victim was unresponsive while being hospitalized in extremely critical condition; the younger woman was also taken to the hospital in potential critical condition; investigsators believe the two women are related.

The incident happened around 7:45 a.m. on Friday, the morning of Halloween.
