During the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, you will be able to legally shoot aerial fireworks within the city of Wichita.
The Wichita City Council's unanimous vote means those fireworks are now allowed between July 1 - 4, from 10 a.m. to Midnight.
So-called ground fireworks that don't exceed 6 feet in height will be allowed from June 27 to the 4th. Bottle rockets and sky lanterns are still banned within the city limits.
Fire Chief Tammy Snow said if you are caught violating the new fireworks law, you will be fined $1,000. A second offense will cost you $1,500, with a $2,000 fine for each subsequent offense.
