Police have arrested 18-year-old Xavier Becker of Wichita for two counts of aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal use of a weapon, stemming from a shooting investigation.

On Friday, July 14th, after 11:30 p.m., officers were called to a shooting in the 700 block of W. Maywood, to the east of 55th Stree South & Seneca. Officers located two victims parked in a vehicle. A 19-year-old man had been shot in the leg, and a 17-year-old juvenile male sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso area. Both victims were hospitalized in critical-but-stable condition.

The investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident in the area of I-235 & Meridian in the south part of Wichita. An eyewitness observed an altercation between the victims and suspects in a black sedan. A suspect in the sedan fired multiple shots at the victim’s vehicle and fled the area.

With the assistance of social media posts, officers and detectives were able to identify Becker as the shooter.

The investigation is still ongoing and the WPD is asking anyone with any additional information about this shooting to please call WPD detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something Say Something Hotline at 316-519-2282 or call in an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
