Sedgwick County license tags main facility is at Douglas and Meridian in west Wichita, after an east-Wichita facility was recently closed. The idea is to consolidate personnel and services in one location, with the aim to better serve the taxpayer and saved money. Tag offices are under the authority of the State of Kansas.

Sedgwick County Treasurer Brandi Baily tells KNSS News one of her goals is better customer service, and that includes speeding up the work at the County Tag Office. Baily says one challenge is an overworked computer. She says all 105 Kansas counties are on one server, which has been handling all the transactions in the state for several years. Baily says the server goes down several times a month, mostly at the last of the month, when it is needed most. This adds to the citizens' wait time.

Baily says she has offered to buy a new computer but state officials have refused the offer.

Baily says the tag offices are funded by fees, and not the property tax. She says those fees have not changed "in 50 years." Those fees are set by the State of Kansas.

Brandi Baily is our guest this weekend on Issues 2025, Sunday morning at 8 on KNSS, with a podcast here on our web page.
