A boil water advisory has been issued for customers in Topeka and Shawnee County.

City of Topeka officials issued the advisory as a precaution after discovering chlorine levels at the water treatment plant did not meet minimum standards required by regulation.

The city says low water levels and the frigid weather have stressed the City’s water system and may put the system at risk for bacterial contamination. Topeka city staff are currently working to resolve the issue.

Customers there are asked to boil their water before drinking it until the situation is resolved.
