Beginning May 15, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will reduce services or temporarily close recreational areas and campgrounds at some Kansas lakes.

Changes are being made at all Kansas City District lakes though the impacts will be felt more at select locations.

Minooka Park at Wilson Lake will be closed for overnight use but will be open during the day. The Corps says overnight camping is unsustainable with current resources.

The Kanopolis Lake Information Center will be closed to the public, with pass sales by appointment only.

The Hillsdale Lake Information Center, southwest of Kansas City, will be closed.

Limits to seasonal staffing and resources have led to the cuts but the Corps says that it plans to resume full services once conditions improve.
