The city filed a civil lawsuit in September 2019 against manufacturers of, distributors of, and pharmacies dispensing opioid products that resulted in abuse and addiction. The city's lawsuit became a part of national litigation.

The city will receive $4.3 million over the next 18 years in a settlement with opioid distributors and expects more money in future settlements with other defendants. The settlement also means the city cannot pursue future litigation.
