The Wichita City Council has started preps on the 2025 city budget.
In order to know what Wichitans want in that budget, the city announced the results of a citizen survey that took place last fall.
Respondents indicate safety is a continued priority for the city. In the current general fund adopted budget, 59 percent of it is dedicated to Police and Fire.
Residents also support further focus on the local economy, while placing high value on opportunities for education, culture and the arts. Residents said the city could improve on recreational offerings and health services.
At Tuesday's workshop, the council also approved funding to rent a second temporary chiller unit and extend the rental of the existing temporary chiller unit at the Wichita Ice Center.
With the 2024 Midwestern Synchronized Skating Championships going on later this week at Intrust Bank Arena, the Ice Center needs two operating ice rinks for practice sessions.
The total anticipated cost for the rentals through April is not to exceed $378,462.
