Brent Decker with Cure Violence Global said in many cities and communities, homicide is the leading cause of death.

Their method, which has seen success in larger cities like Chicago and Baltimore, is to approach violence like a contagious disease and treat it. Community-based partners work to stop future spread by changing behaviors among those in high-risk areas.

Work on a similar program for Wichita began over a year ago and according to Mayor Brandon Whipple it's still in the planning phase. It will be paid for with ARPA funding.
