The Wichita City Council has approved a 25-year lease and operator agreement for the Multi-Agency Center and homeless shelter located at 1025 N. Main.

MAC Board, Inc. will operate the facility beginning April 1, as its mission shifts from an emergency shelter to a temporary one. Work continues at the site to construct office space for service providers and should be completed by the end of this year or early 2026.

Back in December, the city council allocated $5 million in ARPA funding to operate the MAC through 2026. The city says donations of time, money and talent will be necessary to fulfill its mission.

The board will now focus on hiring an executive director for the MAC, preferably by the end of June. That candidate would not only be the lead operator but would also lead fund raising efforts.
