Road improvements, pedestrian crossing enhancements and other projects are coming soon around the city.
21st Street North, from 119th Street West to the west side of Northwest YMCA parking lot will be repaved and restriped. The project will create a turning lane in an effort to improve safety. The city will evaluate the parking lot at the Mid-American All-Indian Center and Jackson Height Street from Douglas to Central as well.
Look for pedestrian crossing evaluations and upgrades at K-15 and Wassall, 1st and 2nd Streets at the Canal Route, and on Woodlawn at the Redbud Trail.
The city will also remove parking lots over the Hess Pump Station Reservoirs near the river. A 2019 inspection revealed hairline cracks and exposed steel rebar along the roofs of two of the reservoirs, due to the weight of vehicles on the parking lot above.
In all, the projects will total $5.1 million.
